Doodle 101/ a Whale of a Tale:)

I’m a runner.  Like Jonah.  Well, sometimes I just walk, but it doesn’t matter if we walk or run, when it’s in the opposite direction that God is calling us to go…it all turns out the same…

Eventually, we get backed up in a corner (or inside a WHALE!), with nowhere else to go…but to the place God asked us to go in the first place:)

How many times has the Holy Spirit whispered… love them…and “I’LL (God) do the rest.”

Tim Keller said it like this…Before Jonah confronts the idolatry of the Ninevites, he must first confront the idolatry in his own heart.  Jonah, instead of confronting his idolatry, runs from it. In fact, he runs from the very “presence of the Lord.” – Jonah 1:3

The truth is, Jonah didn’t want to extend love to his enemies.

We can have the right “religious” words, and sometimes, even the actions to go with those words…but our HEARTS are hard and unwilling to fully extend God’s love without expectation.  Only God can expand our hearts through the grace of the Cross.

When we are abiding in Christ, we can function with His capacity to love…even our “enemies”

And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.” -Ezekiel 36:26

(I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you.  I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart.”

We can know the abundant grace God has for “those” undeserving people, but we can forget that  WE ARE part of that same group of undeserving people:)

Father, please extend our hearts beyond what we are humanly capable, that we might LOVE and not RUN. Take our hearts of stone and replace them with hearts of flesh.

  1. Sue…it seems like we are on the same God line! Our sermon on Sunday was about anger. I had just started doing art in my Inspire bible on Jonah. I decided to read the whole thing over and then started with the coloring of a ship in the waves of the ocean. There is so much more to the story than Jonah being stuck in that whale! I am excited and had been looking at scrapbooking supplies at Michael’s and I even found some whales! I did not buy them because I always wait for a sale…Now you posted this pic of the whale. It all goes together! God is good and I continue to be amazed that we are on the same page! Have a blessed day….

    1. Javene, Thank you so very much for sharing your God Story with me today! Can you even believe how faithful He is to provide us the smallest details when we are obedient?!!! It can be such an exercise of faith to go into Michaels, right?!! It would be so easy to just make purchases we want but don’t “need.” I try to listen to the Holy Spirit when I shop. Sometimes, in my stubborn flesh, I don’t listen, but when I do…God teaches me that He provides MORE than what I THINK I need:) You described just that!! What a blessing to me! xoxoxoxo
