Hello! Welcome to Week 3 Day 2 in The Virtue of Contentment!
In my previous post, I mentioned the importance of operating from our “owners manual” (God’s Word/ discerned through the Holy Spirit).
We often (quite often!) go “rogue” and follow our own “manual” (outside the manufacturer’s guidelines!) which inevitability leads us to a place of disappointment and discontent.
When we stick to the “owners manual” written by the one who created us…who knows every hair on our head… we will “run” / operate as the Maker intended!
“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,” -2 Timothy 3:16
As we look at our first passage in 1 Timothy 6:3-10, we can also learn that all teaching must be measured (in agreement) with the “Words of our Lord.”
Loud and clear, these verses say, don’t believe everything you hear! Take it to the Word!
Below are the truths I was convicted of in this passage:
-All teaching must be measured by God’s Word.
– If we choose our own “doctrine” we are rooted in pride which produces controversy, quarrels, envy, slander, evil, suspicions, and constant friction…we will be deprived of truth …believing godliness is a means of gain.
ick! That is ugly truth, yet we live at that address don’t we?
– Only righteous Godliness (a sincere heart rooted in truth) produces gain- which yields contentment😍 Chasing godliness before seeking the Lord Himself will result in nothing. A temporary “mirage” of gain.
This passage goes on to say that our worldly cravings will lead us to fall into a snare, and will not only cause us to wander, but will bring us to a place of “ruin and destruction”
In verse 7 it says “we can’t take it with us!” I’ve heard this phrase many times, and here it is, right in 1 Timothy!!
When we trust in God’s provision, we can TRULY REST- we can stop the constant scramble for MORE…content with what we have.
Bottom line for me…
I am posting from my phone today because my iPad is not operating according to its OWNERS MANUAL!!!!
Hoping the format transfers, and it’s not too hard for you to read!
Thank you for hanging out with me today! Keep carving out time to learn your Owner’s Manual!
