She Reads Truth : Fruit of the Spirit Study

“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. -Hebrews 11:1

Right away we see 2 amazing PROMISES…

-that FAITH is the ASSURANCE  (word, promise, vow) of HOPE

-and the CONVICTION of things we cannot see.

I think we could all use a little assurance and a big spoonful of HOPE! (With a HEAVY DOSE OF CONVICTION ON THE SIDE)

The passage we start with today comes from Hebrews 11.

“The Wall of Faith.”

It’s a comfort and a hope to know that this faithful list relied on the Lord to provide…yet, stumbled just like you and me.

They each had their own journey…each very different….just like you and me.

Can’t you totally relate to Diana’s openings statement?!! I sure can.

Sisters….we have to stop comparing!!!!! Can I get an amen?!!!

And…it’s not about the BIG things we do…it’s about “walking in faithfulness” as we go to the dentist, empty the dishwasher, take time to talk to someone who is hurting…as we drive in traffic.

It’s about “WHO I’ve put my faith in…more than WHAT I am “doing.”

Aren’t you relieved to know that even our stumbling, insecure faith of a mustard seed can move mountains?

If we waited until we felt “qualified” we’d miss seeing God’s Glory in us on earth…and isn’t that the point?

I love Diana’s quote:

I must GO to the Lord…be in His presence…ask for FAITH, and be ready to receive it.

What a loving Father we have…He ALWAYS GIVES US WHAT WE NEED.

She Reads Truth ; Fruit of the Spirit Study

Today we are studying the FRUIT of PATIENCE.

I am finding that there is a deeper root to the problem of impatience.

Something more than just being in a hurry to get through the Security line.

It has less to do about the impatience we feel towards our spot in the traffic jam or our arguing kids, and more to do with the deeper root of fear.

Fear of….

not being good enough...we can work tirelessly to achieve…to make a name for ourselves…filling our days with  “doing” as we physically run our bodies and our spirits into the ground.,.which of course, leads to diminished tolerance and patience for others.

not getting what we deserve… unmet expectations placed in all the wrong places (or people) can lead us to feelings of bitterness and resentment, which then leads to an attitude that is lacking in grace and patience.

just to name a few.

Patience is linked to waiting and waiting is not a part of our culture. We live in a “I want it now” world where that  becomes very possible… just a click away with Amazon Prime:)

James tells us in Chapter 5 verse 7, “Be patient, therefore, brothers, (and sisters!) until the coming of the Lord.  See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient about it, until it receives the early and the late rains…

Verse 8 “…Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand.

We grow impatient when we cannot see the hope of our future.

We develop fear, when we do not BELIEVE the hope of our future in Christ.

Instead of merely praying for patience, I am going to pray that the Lord will give me His perspective to “see” the hope of my future! To see beyond my immediate circumstance…it’s so very small compared to my eternal hope!

*AS A SIDE NOTE: Let’s also remember that God has a PROMISE for those who remain steadfast…They will be blessed! (James 5:11) Come on now, our God is so generous, He BLESSES us when we “do the right thing!”

That nasty root of fear can be released as we rest in the hope we have in Jesus. The eternity beyond the here and now that our human flesh feels “stuck” in.

“But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with patience.” -Romans 8:25 (HCSB)

Oh, Father, let my heart be glad and my flesh rest in HOPE.

As we “rest in HOPE” patience will follow ❤

“We do not wait in vain. We wait for our God-the God who has promised and secured our full redemption through Jesus Christ.” -Andrea Lucado

I LOVE what Andrea suggests…

Let’s (wait & ) longsuffer TOGETHER!  We need to stick by each other like glue Sisters! There are times in our lives when we have a need for our tribe…our band of Sisters…to come alongside us and pull us up on our feet! Can I get an AMEN?

May we all be given God’s eyes to see beyond our circumstance…to develop patience for the great hope that is our future, and to remember that it is available to us right now.

Art journaling can be a great process of “being still.” I like to put on worship music and “steep” in the scripture…listening for the Holy Spirit as He quiets the “noise” in my head…teaching me things I do not know…as I draw and color.  I hope that my little doodles are an aid in that process for you…giving you a “starting point”…as you create your own very personal rememberance of the place where God met with you.

I apologize to all you early morning study gals…(I’m one of “those” too!)

I’ve just had one of those exceptionally demanding days, and couldn’t get my notes posted this morning! It is my intention to post my notes first thing:)

God’s promise to us is that in ALL things we will find JOY if we are in His presence. Practicing His presence is our MOST CRITICAL NEED.  This is always our FIRST STEP. -and to think…

our joy only begins here…it is for all eternity:)

What are you learning? I’d love to hear!

FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT / DAY 2 (Continued!)

I am actually still on DAY 2 of the “SHE READS TRUTH” study on the Fruit of the Spirit.  I typically use the 3,2,1 process for one or 2 verses at a time. There are a lot here! ( FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT STUDY

My heart skips a beat, anytime C. S. Lewis is mentioned…Kaitlin used this quote in DAY 2

Loving others as ourselves “is an image, a foretaste of what we must become to all if Love Himself rules in us without a rival.” -C.S. Lewis

Moving on to 1 RESPONSE (3, 2, 1)

A great teacher and righteous man of God, Larry Reese, posted this yesterday:

“Friends, I want to share something with us from the Scriptures that has been on my heart today. In a way, it is a warning to be careful to watch out for the things that pull us away from Father and cause us to think inconsistently with what Jesus tells us. We should know with all of our hearts that if we walk with Jesus the way that we should and listen to His words and read the Scriptures, eating them, allowing them to fill us up with the knowledge of God, then Satan will have a lot of trouble pulling us away from Jesus. It is not just enough to try and have a relationship with the Bible, but it is spiritually profound to have intimacy with the Author–knowing, receiving, and welcoming Him so that He may give us continual power to experience being His children. Know for certain, dear friends, that there is a strong presence of deception that is trying to pull us away from following after Jesus with our whole hearts, telling us it is alright to do the things that Father instructs us in His word, not to do. Be aware:”

“…..Now the Holy Spirit tells us clearly that in the last times some will turn away from the true faith; they will follow deceptive spirits and teachings that come from demons.” 1 Timothy 4:1 (NLT)

“….Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.” John 14:6 (NLT)

“….And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:32 (NLT)

Let us hold firmly the word of God in our hearts, so that we may not sin against Him.

THANK YOU BROTHER LARRY! These amazing truths are just what I needed to hear. To produce fruit, we must EAT “FRUIT” ‘allowing it to fill us up’.  Abiding in Him allows us the opportunity to “experience being His children!”  We must sit on His lap daily, if we are to “KNOW” Him…to LOVE HIm…

& We cannot love apart from Christ.

“His love for us fuels our love of others while we await our great going Home.” -Kaitlin Wernet

I’d love to hear what God is revealing to you!
