Doodle 101 “Pocket Full Of Sunshine”

Happy Thursday!

I’ll admit, I’m a bit of an Emma Stone Fangirl. She makes me laugh:) She was in a movie that I wouldn’t recommend (due to it’s content/theme) however, there is a scene in the beginning of the movie that keeps this song on repeat for me when I think of her:)

When I listen to this song….I think of JESUS. …my Pocket Full Of Sunshine:)

I like what Billy Graham has to say about sharing your pocket full of SONshine…below is an article from

Billygraham.org

So how exactly do you shine?

Do not be conformed to this world … —Romans 12:2a, ESV

“Being a light” sounds great, doesn’t it? But it’s also a little abstract. How exactly do you become this brilliant beacon to people around you? Here are 4 practical tips:

  • Be careful what you say. The Bible calls the tongue “a restless evil, full of deadly poison” (James 3:8). Yikes! That’s pretty serious. And that’s how we should take our speech—seriously. Maybe a parent once told you, “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.” It’s not bad advice, even as an adult. Words are powerful and can be used for good or bad. You might even post this verse somewhere as a reminder: “Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear” (Ephesians 4:29). Read How to Tame the Tongue.
  • Consider your entertainment. Where do you go for fun? What shows or movies do you watch? What kind of music do you listen to? Would you go to the same places, watch the same things or listen to the same music if Jesus were sitting next to you? Or would you be embarrassed? It might sound silly, but asking those questions is a good way to keep yourself in check, whether you’re alone or with others.
  • Use social media wisely. People are watching what you post, whether they interact with your posts or not. Think about the things you’ve posted recently—articles, comments, photos and so on. Could they be seen as prideful? Self-centered? Rude? What’s your motive? To put others down or make them jealous? Hopefully not. Aim to make informed, respectful posts that represent the One you claim as Lord.
  • Think of others. Consider other people’s needs and help meet them. Encourage instead of criticize. Be patient. Give others the benefit of the doubt. If you hear gossip, distance yourself from it or change the subject. When you encounter a difficult person, remember that they were made and are loved by God. Above all, “Treat others the same way you want them to treat you” (Luke 6:31).

Point 2 is something that I’ve personally learned the hard way! It critical what you “put in.” I’ve heard this argument from my kids as long as I can remember… “Watching gory movies, won’t make me a slasher Mom.” Well… It does change your heart over time. It subtly shifts the way you see yourself, others, and even God. You become numb to things, and the line between right and wrong becomes blurred…God’s voice gets more distant, and you walk further and further away from Him and the Love, protection and provision He provides. This is the journey we often take towards the mess we can make of our lives. I’ve made plenty of messes. Every point on this list hits home for me, and it’s important to be reminded of them….especially in the culture and climate of today.

“Draw near to the Lord, and He will draw near to you.” -James 4:8

The rest of this verse goes like this… “Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.”

We don’t like to admit that we’re double-minded. The Holy Spirit keeps our thoughts clear on this.

”You can’t ride two horses with one ass sugar bean”

We can’t ride 2 horses…

Stay close to the light, and you’ll have enough Sunshine in your pocket to share:)

Free Image Downloads for Phomemo

I have recently purchased a new little toy that many of you may have seen out there in the Big Wide Creative Net. Maybe you have one yourself! If so, this is the post for you!

The Phomemo is a tiny little portable thermal printer, that creates stickers and labels on the spot from your iPhone, Android, Ipad or Computer.

The model I have is the MO2. There is a MO2S available for about $20 more, but I am still unclear as to the difference between the two? (I am awaiting a reply to this question from the manufacturer) One roll of paper comes with the printer, but you must purchase paper/sticker paper separately. There is DEFINITELY a BIG difference between the papers available including plain white paper, white sticker paper and transparent sticker paper. NOTE: each paper has a specific duration for ink clarity. Some paper states the prints only last 2 years. Look carefully before you buy; my advise is to purchase the “longer life” paper that promises 20+ years.

If you are printing temporary mailing labels, notes, etc., the 2 yr paper is fine:)

You will also need to download the free Phomemo App to your device. In this App, there are lots of free printable graphics, & labels, along with a banner function and “Notes” section. If you want to add text to an image, you will need to save the image and download it to the “NOTES” section and there you can add text. Here you can also adjust the size of your image.

This is an example of the Transparent Sticker Paper.

I think the Transparent Sticker Paper is my favorite for use with my Bullet Journal or Bible Journaling. If you fussy cut the design, you can add simple color to the page with markers or watercolor, and then place the clear sticker image on top. Below are some examples that I created this way.

Transparent Sticker Paper / Fussy Cut/ Applied to top of watercolor
Transparent Sticker Paper applied to watercolor heart
Transparent Sticker Paper applied to watercolor background/tank
Transparent Sticker Paper (with all black print option) applied to gold watercolor background
This is cute little bird image is printed on long lasting white paper, with color added after printing, then glued to the page.

I have not experimented with all the paper available. There are lots more options, including blue ink print and gold, just to name a few.

I’d like to share these images with to try! If you don’t have a Phomemo, you can print these images on 8.5 x 11 transparent label/sticker paper:) The download file is linked below.

Happy Journaling and Creating!

Xo,

Quick Fun Project

I have been spending a bit of time, looking for projects you might enjoy. I found this cute bound journal and wanted to share it! Perfect for Spring!

The video tutorial I used for this WATERMELON JOURNAL is below. Jennifer, from “Sea Lemon” provides easy to follow videos on simple book binding. She is enjoyable to follow!

Click on the image for video

I think Jennifer does a great job with her step by steps! I will admit, the cut out wasn’t as easy for me, so I folded the cover directly and in half and cut it with scissors to straighten up my shape.

I also reinforced that edge by applying little pieces of torn washi tape. I like the way it looks, and it feels more finished and sturdy to me:)

I added washi to all the cover edges. Again, a little more sturdy.

The interior pages with print are cardstock. It’s all I had, and worked fine:)

It’s a fun one for 10-16 year olds who could do it solo:)

I loved this project and enjoy productive crafting during these times of quarantine.

Happy Monday!

Much love,

Bullet Journal Spread for Bible Study & Devotionals

I am currently reading Beth Guckenberger’s 40 day devotional “Reckless Faith” -a 40 day journey to saying yes.

Beth Guckenberger has compiled forty life-changing messages to encourage a life of reckless faith. This devotional journey walks through the adventure and joy that follows a yes to Jesus. Through a unique approach of reflecting on experiences to create internal change and external action steps, each day tells personal stories of when she accepted a challenge to grow. Some stories take place on the mission field and some around her table, but all hold insight to inspire a life with Jesus, who longs to work in and through us all. This journey will help you: – Experience reckless faith adventures – Relate biblical truths to your daily life – Understand God’s heart for others

About Beth

Beth and her husband, Todd, live with their family in Cincinnati, Ohio where they serve as Co-Executive Directors of Back2Back Ministries. After graduating from Indiana University, the Guckenbergers moved to Monterrey, Mexico where they lived for 15 years. Between biological, foster, and adopted children, they have raised ten children.

Beth is the author of eight books including adult and children’s titles. She travels and speaks regularly at conferences, youth gatherings and church services. Her style is based in story-telling and she draws from her vast field experience as a missionary, Bible teacher and parent for illustrations of biblical concepts.

Beth is an incredible story teller, and for this visual learner, she illuminates truth like no other. The Lord has blessed her with the ability to communicate spiritual truth with a humility and compassion that completely draws you to HIM. Through the power of the Holy Spirit you will be moved. She speaks from experience out in the trenches, doing God’s work…stumbling along the way, as she becomes more like Christ with each step. She invites you into her journey and you walk away friends:)

Today, I want to share my process for journaling this 40 day devotional with you. It can be used to journal any devotional or scripture study, but works perfectly with the way Beth sets up each daily entry in her book.

Above is my Journal. Baron Fig Confidant. (Slightly smaller than A5) There are definitely aspects about it that I don’t like. I fixed one issue by painting the front and back with acrylic paint. (It has a linen like cover that picks up dirt and grease, yuk!) The layout of the book and the size are certainly to my liking, but the pages are very thin, and don’t hold up well with any heavier applications of pen/marker or paint. I primarily use watercolor and microns, so I can manage, but below is my FAVORITE dot bullet journal that will take almost ANY product without bleed through! (And I love the wipeable cover!) Size/A5

Each of the 40 days in “Reckless Faith” contain: an Experience, a reflection Scripture, Probing Reflective Questions, and an Action step. Below is how I set up my spread to utilize these elements.

Click on the image above for the printable pdf

LEFT SIDE PAGE

I use the top left box (Date/March) to write the FACTS/TRUTHS I pull from the scripture highlighted(top right), using the 3,2,1 Method of Study.

In the “Action space” (left page top right space next to the Date/Truth box) I write my “Response” The ACTION God is calling me to take. I try to write this in the form of a plan that I can implement daily. Beth gives you a specific task to accomplish which is a great way to put what you’ve learned into DOING:)

RIGHT SIDE PAGE

In the top Right box I RE-WRITE the scripture. I find that the simple exercise of prayerfully re-writing scripture helps me meditate over it and remember it! Ask the Holy Spirit for direction and insight, He will teach you “the deep things of God that you do not know!” (1 Corinthians 2)

The vertical box on the lower left side of the right page is where I place a specific WORD that jumps out at me in the story Beth shares or a lesson point she makes. Sometimes, I write a phrase…it’s usually the main point for the day:)

On the lower Right Side (of the right page) I describe the Word box in more detail. Sometimes I add a visual using a drawing or photo.

I pre-cut thin, brown paper bags to use as a 3 x 4 background or I tear pieces of recycled bags and place “strategically” on any of the sections. I also pre-cut watercolor squares/rectangles to use for paintings/drawings. This way, you can create something outside your journal, and will get better results on watercolor paper. MANY TIMES, I cover up boo boos by adding paper! If I cannot correct an oops, I just grab paper, glue it in, and cover it up!

Devotions / Sue Carroll/1Arthouse.blog
This is a COVER UP (left page bottom) over my notes section where I made a big boo boo!

I spend a big chunk of time each morning studying and creating my pages.(1-2 hours) I save time by drawing out the page layout structure, a week at a time, on the weekend. I typically do one, 2 page spread, 5 days a week and use the weekend to layout my pages so they are ready to fill in during the week.

THE PODCASTS ARE GREAT!

I’ve included a FREE printable that you can use to make your own stickers! You can find sticker paper on amazon HERE.

Hopefully I’ve given you some resources that will be useful to you as you spend precious time with the Lord.

“The Lord bless you
    and keep you;
the Lord make his face shine on you
    and be gracious to you;
the Lord turn his face toward you
    and give you peace.”’

Time To Cross Over

A lesson from Dr. Tony Evans

We’ve all been stuck in a boat that is caught in a storm. I’ve been in quite a few…some of my own doing. I STEPPED WILLINGLY INTO THE STORM.

I have a dear friend who has been in the boat such a long time. The thing is, her kids are in the boat with her. Their storm is a very physical one. Medical issues that are unrelenting.

Unrelenting

adjective

  1. not yielding in strength, severity, or determination.

My heart aches with her…Her kids are fighting a storm of health issues that are NOT YIELDING IN STRENGTH OR SEVERITY…DAILY. If you are a Mom, you can probably relate to the deep pain you experience, watching your children suffer in ways you cannot relieve…if you could, you’d gladly take this pain from them…but lack the power to do so.

These are the circumstances when we have NO CHOICE but to completely LET GO OF OUR GRIP …we must let go of the stern to take hold of Jesus hand. (Mark 4)

“Mortal words” never make a dent in the wall of suffering some endure…

In an Article by Sarah Walton she says this:

Distress teaches us to rest in God’s sovereignty.

What has gradually changed my perspective on my life, my child, and my family’s struggles is that it’s never been about me. When I believe that life is all about my happiness, when I think that I could do more if I didn’t have this hardship or that I am missing out on what life could have been, I get discontent, anxious, and downcast. But when, by God’s grace, I trust that nothing happens apart from his will and sovereign plan, I am encouraged and strengthened, knowing he is working in and through even my darkest days, to make me more like him. It is in the midst of our darkness that his light shines most brightly to those around us.

As much as we would like answers and help for the painful, confusing, overwhelming circumstances, we must remember that Christ himself is the answer that we need in both an earthly and spiritual sense. He knows each member of our family intimately and is working out his good purposes in each of our lives (including the children he calls home and those living with disability or illness), often in ways we never would have expected. As we learn to trust Christ in our grief, despite what seems hopeless, we can begin to grasp more deeply the profound hope of the gospel.

If you have been entrusted with a road that has been marked by loss in your parenting and are struggling to see beyond the pain, I pray that you will be strengthened by remembering that your family has been divinely chosen to display God’s glorious redemption story. Although we aren’t promised healing (physical or mental) on this earth, we are promised that Christ will not waste one tear we shed over the painful effects of sin and brokenness within our world. You are not hopeless, you are not alone, and your losses will not have the final word.

Entrusted with this pain? How can we ever wrap our human mind around this truth? How did Job do it?

In a recent post, I shared a story Tony Evans told about the Shoe Cobbler.

“I work down here, but I LIVE UP THERE.”

I only know of ONE WAY to reconcile the storms of life we find ourselves in… “THIS IS NOT OUR HOME, and GOD IS GOOD AND ONLY HAS GOOD FOR US.” <—- ok, maybe that’s two ways:)

ONLY the Lord can give us peace in the storm…hope, in the storm, power, in the storm. He promises these things to His children. We either believe Him or we don’t. If we do believe, then the next VERY DIFFICULT STEP is to let go of the stern and trust Him for everything we need to keep moving forward… cause let’s be honest, there are days when taking another step feels absolutely impossible. Our head know that ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE THROUGH CHRIST, but our heart has a bit of trouble with this.

Most days, all I can do is lovingly listen to my friend…then pray. There are no “words.”

I know that there are times when we have weathered a storm so long, that we stop asking for help. Do you know what I mean? We think that others are bored with our struggles and needs…but this is not where a TRUE friend resides.

I am reminded of Moses…

…As long as Moses held up his hands, Israel prevailed; but when he lowered them, Amalek prevailed. When Moses’ hands grew heavy, they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it.Then Aaron and Hur held his hands up, one on eachside, so that his hands remained steady until the sunwent down. -Exodus 17:11,12

Love isn’t love without sacrifice. “Love is ascribing worth to another at cost to oneself.” (Greg Boyd)

The power to extend Selfless love only comes from the author of Love.

Lord, give me the heart and the strength to love what you love…to be like Aaron and Hur…a friend who will stand in the gap…who will hold up some arms.

Bless God’s name for how He’s going to take you to the other side.

He may be calling you to hold up another’s arms. (In His strength)

He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. -Philippians 1:6

Much love,

Get Out Of Your Camp

Good day!

I am enjoying my last few days in CO, a place where I always feel closer to God. The beauty of His Glory is undeniable, and causes me to pause with such gratitude!

Below are a few photos from our Monarch Lake Hike:)

My husband & I are spending more and more time here, and we were finally able to visit a local church here in town.

It was a Spirit filled service grounded in sound Biblical teaching. It was so refreshing to study scripture together as a congregation…verse by verse. Above all else, we are to look to God’s Word for life. Pastor Doug Toller, Senior Pastor at Winter Park Christian Church has been leading this flock for 30 years. Like my church back home, the Holy Spirit was welcomed and present ❤

Pastor Toller finished up a series he has been teaching on Leadership. As we studied Acts, Numbers 11, Titus, 1 & 1 Peter we learned that Leadership (overseers of God’s church) have a supernatural responsibility to their church. Elders are to be Spiritually mature men who are trustworthy & respected by others. They are to be chosen through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and are to lead through His power. There are Holy qualifications to be met by the Elders, only possible through the supernatural help of the Spirit. They are to hold firm to the Word above all else, standing on the WHOLE council of God.

He concluded his message in Hebrews.

11 The high priest carries the blood of animals into the Most Holy Place as a sin offering, but the bodies are burned outside the camp. 12 And so Jesus also suffered outside the city gate to make the people holy through his own blood.13 Let us, then, go to him outside the camp, bearing the disgrace he bore. 14 For here we do not have an enduring city, but we are looking for the city that is to come.”  -Hebrews 13: 11-14

To Lead like Jesus. This is direction for us all. We are to serve, often suffering, as Jesus served. We are to get out of our “comfortable” CAMP, to reach those outside the gate. Our Savior, set aside His deity, stepping outside His “camp” to lay down His life for us.

Let us, then, go to him outside the camp, bearing the disgrace He bore. For here we do not have an enduring city, but we are looking for the city that is to come.”

Like Jesus, we are called to a rescue mission…one that is uncomfortable and requires that we step outside the safety of the walls we build up for ourselves. Let us ask God  for an increased desire to “share with others” the hope that is found beyond these earthly borders; that He would give us His heart & perspective to see the lost, willing to put others before ourselves.

This is pleasing to God.

What is outside “your camp?” How can we each answer this call? I don’t know about you, but I spend way more time inside the bubble of “the church” and personally needed to be reminded to DAILY ASK the Lord to send me to those who are in need and ready to hear the good news.

Thank you Pastor Toller and the body of Christ you serve here in Grand County. We felt welcomed, loved and accepted, and heard sound teaching from the Word of God ❤

Ezekiel / Read the Bible in a Year with the READ SCRIPTURE APP

Hello!!

Writing to you from CO. In awe of my surroundings and the abundance of blessings the Lord provides!! I feel like I walk around repeating…wow!  Wow…wow… GLORY all around!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

That last little “bundle” is my brand new grandson…Charlie:) Poopah and Mimi have the other two so Mom & Dad can catch their breath!

Currently, we are in Ezekiel, as this journey continues with reading the Bible in a year.

Each Biblical Prophet had the same underlying message: return to God. The Israelites suffered from the same disease we see today…me, me, me. God who? It’s all about what I want, what I can get. I WILL find my own “happiness”  😫There is nothing good that comes from this…just a lack of “fruit.”

Like Israel, we choose to align our hearts with the world in self focus without giving the One who created us a thought. This is our natural response…we are rooted in pride.

-In the pride of his face the wicked does not seek him; all his thoughts are, “There is no God.” Psalm 10:4

It is just too easy to get caught up in the me, me, me. To see beyond ourselves, we must be engaged with the Holy Spirit. Only He can give us a greater perspective! With my limited view, I will always be disappointed.

I want to look in the mirror and NOT see myself, but Christ in me. As I gaze at my own reflection, I am caught up in the not good enoughs & the need mores…instead of my true identity, which is whole and complete in Christ.

Oh, Lord, give me your eyes to see beyond myself and a heart to love You and others first.

Blessings to you,
