And If not…

& If Not.../ Sue Carroll

I have been teaching Large Group Children’s Church for 20 years, and one of my favorite stories to tell is that of Shadrach Meshach and Abeanburrito.

(Abednegosorry, my kids laugh when I talk “spanish”)

Anyway, their story is about miraculous faith bringing miraculous rescue.  In Daniel 3, you can read for yourself…but these three faithful men stepped into the fire for their beliefs…and God stepped in there with them…saving them from death…

and isn’t that what He does for us all?

As we continue to love and pray for our precious Grandson Ethan, I rest in the truth that our God goes before us & He is with us…especially in the fire.

Some days I have to cling to the truth with only my finger nails, because I just can’t fully grasp that we, as God’s children, have eternity promised…this earth we feel tied to is not our home.

As  Shadrach, Meshach and Abendego faced the punishment of burning in the fiery furnace for their faith, they proclaimed…

“O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. 17 If this be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king. 18 But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up.” -Daniel 3

& if not….He is still good.

Praying for a rescue…

Bible Art Journaling Page/ Deuteronomy

I taught a Bible Art Journaling class last night…the final of a series of 3, with an amazingly talented group!  They all had so much to share with one another and it was a blessing to learn from them as well:)  Thank you Sisters of Hose Hose #4

When we stop learning, we stop growing…

BAJ/Deuteronomy/Sue Carroll

Speaking of learning and growing…

“Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and be no longer stubborn.” Deut 10:16

In the KJV it says “be no more stiff-necked”

I can relate to both…I am stubborn and stiff necked!

BAJ/Deuteronomy/Sue Carroll

What a sweet reminder that if we turn from our stubbornness, (just turn our head in the slightest) we can see, that IN LOVE…our Father has SO MUCH more for us than what we plan out for ourselves.  This is a life long lesson I learn over and over.

Thank you Father for your Mercy and Grace.

Journaling Page with Caran d’ache Neocolor II

(You will find a little about the process of this journal page at the end of this post)

One of my favorite worship songs…
“You make me brave
You call me out beyond the shore into the waves
You make me brave
No fear can hinder now the love that made a way”

The lyrics of this song touch the hearts of millions because we can all relate to this struggle…

The struggle of once being paralyzed with fear.

Fear that prevents us from moving forward to the place that God Himself has prepared for us.

Amanda Cook shares her heart on writing this amazing worship song.

Hearing Amanda’s personal story deepens the connection to this beautiful song.

As we share our stories…we can see that we are all a part of the same story. God’s story.

The first step to my Journal page was to adhere some letter stickers and “paint” the word BRAVE using masking fluid.

BAJ/YoumakemeBrave/Sue Carroll

Next step is to add color:)

BAJ/YoumakemeBrave/Sue Carroll

Neocolor II are a favorite of mine.  You can use them wet or dry.

They can be applied like a crayon, but more often, I take a wet brush and pull color off the tip.

Below, I “colored” a stamp, then spritzed with a bit of water and stamped on the color.

Above, you can see how I “colored” with them like a crayon.  I then went back over each section with a brush loaded with water.  If you want to keep the areas from “bleeding” into one another, use a heat tool to dry between each area as you go.

I added a few doodles and stamps along with a simple border.

Hope this inspires you to create today!

Rusted Mixed Media project

Happy Saturday!

Today I thought I would share another journaling card I worked on in the wee morning hours yesterday.  Creating rust is a favorite technique  of mine…especially when I want to give something a vintage feel.  With this card, I combined a “brighter” color palette with iron paint.

Gratitude / Ephesians 1

BAJ:mixedmedia:projectlifecards:Sue Carroll

Anyone who has known me for very long, knows that Ephesians 1 is one of my favorite passages.

In it, we are told that we are BLESSED (with EVERY spiritual blessing), LOVED, CHOSEN, HOLY, BLAMELESS, ADOPTED, REDEEMED, FORGIVEN, PREDESTINED…making know to us the MYSTERY OF HIS WILL, according to His KIND INTENTION…WE have obtained and INHERITANCE…being sons and daughters of the KING.

Ephesians 1:1-14

To the saints who are at Ephesus and who are faithful in Christ Jesus: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him. In love He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, which He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved. In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace which He lavished on us. In all wisdom and insight He made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His kind intention which He purposed in Him 1with a view to an administration suitable to the fullness of the times, that is, the summing up of all things in Christ, things in the heavens and things on the earth. In Him 11 also we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to His purpose who works all things after the counsel of His will, 12 to the end that we who were the first to hope in Christ would be to the praise of His glory. 13 In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation—having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God’s own possession, to the praise of His glory.

This post could be miles long…so much has been happening…

My husband and I have sold our home and are  ‘homeless” for 6 weeks…

So, as I sit here alone in our hotel room tonight, I am COMPLETELY OVERWHELMED with God’s goodness, and provision.

My oldest son and his beautiful wife (both reflections of Christ)  have been blessed with the privilege of bringing home their precious son who has been in the NICU for 4 months…fighting for his life.

Through it all, they never left Ethan’s side, as they stood firm…trusting God for whatever would be His will…

“But the Lord stood with me and strengthened me, so that through me the proclamation might be fully accomplished, and that all the Gentiles might hear; and I was rescued out of the lion’s mouth.” -2 Tim 4:17

Ethan is home.

All praise to the Father.

In the corner of our room, I pulled out my art supplies, turned up my Kari Jobe Station on Pandora, covered our little table with foil, and began to worship.

No matter what trials happen in our lives we have the assurance that this is not our home…this is not “all there is” and in Christ Jesus we are already

BLESSED (with EVERY spiritual blessing), LOVED, CHOSEN, HOLY, BLAMELESS, ADOPTED, REDEEMED, FORGIVEN, PREDESTINED…making know to us the MYSTERY OF HIS WILL, according to His KIND INTENTION…WE have obtained and INHERITANCE…being sons and daughters of the KING.

I am overwhelmed with gratitude for God’s provision.

In the BIG healing, through teams of skilled physicians… to the quiet comfort & strength of caring nurses and lifted prayers from so many friends and family.

How can our God love us so?

I don’t know…but I BELIEVE that He does.

Mixed Media Doodle / Bible Art Journaling with Masking Fluid

“For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse”  -Romans 1:20

Bible Art Journaling/Mixed Media Doodle/Sue Carroll

I started this piece by writing the word “Believe” on watercolor paper with Art Masking Fluid.  Once I finished applying all the paint, gesso and heavy gesso (and all where dry) I rubbed off the masking fluid with my finger.

Screen Shot 2015-07-18 at 5.56.20 AMThere are many brands to chose from…you can even find a bottle that has a small brush or pen like applicator.  I applied it with a round paint brush.  When using a paint brush, make sure you clean it right away with warm soapy water.

For a GREAT article on masking fluid go here.

Below is a practice page in my Bible.  I did the same process on a page in the back titled “Weights and Measures.”  I wanted to make sure the masking fluid would come off without tearing my Bible page.  I would suggest working fairly quickly.  Allowing the masking fluid to sit on your page for too long, may make it harder to rub off without tearing your page.  After you apply the fluid, you can start painting as soon as you can touch it without it coming off on your finger.  I  waited about 10 minutes.

Eternity in our Hearts

BAJ:Biblepage:Ecc:Sue Carroll

We will all have changing “seasons” in our lives.  As Jesus did before us, we will experience  weeping, but also find laughter…mourning,  but learn to dance… uprooting but also planting… breaking down, yet building up…life…but also death.  The great news is…it won’t be the end of our story! Because “We have eternity in our hearts.”  I pray that we each will keep this truth close, as we experience the seasons of life.

Deuteronomy 6 / A Bible Art Journaling Page Tutorial

BAJ/DEUT6/Sue Carroll

I recently posted a DOODLE 101 on Deuteronomy 6.  You can find it here.

There is nothing more important to me than to know my kids love the Lord and believe He is who He says He is, will do what He says He will do, and that THEY are WHO God says they are…not what the world says they are. For them to know WHOSE they are, they must be taught truth, but just as important as that, we must show them the Love of Christ daily.  When “we talk, walk, lie down, rise up…”

As a part of the Body of Christ it is also my responsibility to shepherd any children in my care…for each one is precious in His sight.

I love the picture of “writing God’s word on our doorposts.” That all who enter will hear of His love and truth….for this is life. I’m thinking through how I might do that, as we are in the process of building a new house!

BAJ:Bible Page: Deut 6: Annabelle: products

First, I applied the clear photo sticker to the page.  I printed a photo of my granddaughter that I had previously made into an art piece using the Avery clear full sheet label below.Screen Shot 2015-06-18 at 8.11.43 AM

BAJ/DEUT6/Sue Carroll

Next, I used VersaMark and a Tim Holtz stencil.  Placing the stencil on the page, I  “inked up” the whole area with the VersaMark.

Next, I used a dime store make-up sponge to apply the Pan Pastel over the entire page.

The VersaMark “grabs” the color in the areas that were stenciled.

Because it is a pastel, it is important to “seal” it so that the powder doesn’t continue to rub off on the rest of your Bible pages.

BAJ/DEUT6/Sue Carroll

You can use Workable Fixative for this or some people use hairspray. I haven’t tried this in my Bible, but have used hairspray to set pastel in my art journals.

Once I was finished with the background, I added lettering.

Bless a child today:)
