DAY 26 /iPad Journaling through John / with SHE READS TRUTH app

Day 26 / John Study / She Reads Truth

“In this last chapter of John’s Gospel, we see the risen Christ doing more of what He’d done all along: love and serve, invite and forgive. In fact, John ends his account of Jesus’ life by stating there were so many more things that Jesus did, “if they were written one by one, I suppose not even the world itself could contain the books that would be written” (John 21:25). Volume after volume of love and service. Book after book of invitation and forgiveness.”   -ERIN DAVIS

I really love the story Erin shared about her Jammie breakfast. What a sweet act of service her sister from church extended! But something else touched me about that story…the fact that Erin accepted that unusual request. Like she admitted, it is so often difficult for any of us to accept help…it means being honest about the fact that we actually NEED help. This IS NOT a SHAMEFUL revelation! We ALL DO need help. We need more than help, we need a SAVIOR.

Isn’t it so hard to believe that our GOD, our KING, our SAVIOR and LORD, chooses to SERVE Us?!!!!!! Time and time again, I have to remind myself of this…like pinching myself to wake up, because something is just too good to be true. It would be like one of us showing up at the house of someone who had hurt and betrayed us, to clean their house and make them dinner. I haven’t done that lately:)

How can we accept the precious gift of life and do any less?

The only way that we can serve unselfishly, is through the power of Christ in us. We have to intentionally set aside our STUBBORN will to ASK for it out of love and thanksgiving.

Jesus doesn’t ask us to do anything He hasn’t already done before us.

In serving, we model Jesus, and grow to be more like Him…moving towards the FULLNESS of Joy, He intended for us to experience.

Day 25 / John Study / She Reads Truth

I apologize for my random and infrequent posts of late! It has been over a week with my dad in the hospital…every day has been a different experience! The doc’s cannot find the source of his illness/infection, and his symptoms travel up and down like a roller coaster daily.

It’s such a mystery and often a surprise the way the Lord speaks to us through our circumstances when we choose to listen. I hear Him reminding me of His presence in the midst of it all.

Yesterday, I sat and illustrated Amanda Bible William’s analogy using the kite…

Like Thomas, we want a visual proof. We are not convinced until we can “see” things with our human eyes and reason them out with our human minds. Jesus was so patient and full of grace. He knew this about Thomas, about all of us, and He addressed this weakness with love.

He meets us wherever we are, reaches down and picks us up like a Daddy who lifts his child to see beyond the crowd that blocks his/her view.

God is bigger than what we can see or imagine. Aren’t you glad he’s not bound to thinking and acting with our limited resources?!

The wind and the kite…

We can see the effects of the wind that propels the kite upward. We cannot grasp with our sight the wind itself, but we sure can witness the power it has.

We may not know the root of my Dad’s illness but it is present, we witness the “effects” / the symptoms, I liken it to the wounds we bear. They can be buried deep beneath the surface, but their effects too, can be seen. Wounds (of the heart) can fester and remain diseased, changing the way we see ourselves, others and even God. They change the way we process information and influence the choices we make. Keeping them alive and well in the dark, hidden from view, gives them the power to take us to darkest places.

When we allow the Lord to enter beneath the surface, into these dark places, He will take our hand and lead us out…Cure any disease and clear our vision to see the great hope beyond.

When this happens for us, we experience His presence, His faithful provision, healing, and love. Our wounds then change in definition.

Instead of defining who we are (unlovable, unworthy, rejected, betrayed, abandoned, loser, screw up, disappointment) they can identify us…forgiven, worthy, rescued, child of God, victorious, loved…through Christ.

Jesus showed Thomas His wounds…not to define Himself as defeated, rejected, abandoned, and crucified, but to identify  Himself as our Savior,..Victor over Death in the name of Love. Proof, that He was dead but rose to life. This is what we were meant for… to die to ourselves & live as Christ!

As we share our healed wounds we can show others the Glory of God.

If you have wounds that are festering, they will only grow in the dark…uncover them! Allow the Lord to administer His healing power. Share them with a trusted follower of Christ. Bring your wounds to the Healer through prayer and experience new vision, new hope and increased faith.

You may not “see” the Lord in your current circumstance, but if you close your eyes, call His name, He will answer…and provide what you need. Most often, it is something you weren’t even looking for:)

Take a step into the light…He will do the rest.

Bless you,

Day 24 / John Study / She Reads Truth

I have to admit, I feel a little “not of this world” today…(and not in the spiritual capacity 😜)

After a week in the hospital with my Dad I’m feeling a little out of sorts. (Poor Daddy) It’s such a strange feeling to stop all “normal” activity, setting aside regular routine for a new one. I’m typically a girl who thrives with change, but upon closer look, I’m realizing I have more “comforting” patterns of behavior than I once thought!

So many face much more extreme seasons of “discomfort” so I’m hesitant to speak mine “out loud” though I am thankful that our

God doesn’t ever miss an opportunity to teach us, especially when we are taken out of any of our comfortable places.

We are not built for comfort. As followers of Christ, we were designed to step out from  “conforming to the world” into the extraordinary life of living “set apart” & different from the rest. When we are “fully” engaged followers, we live with abundant FRUIT. Through the power of the cross, we are able to rise above our sin nature, to extend compassion and grace…modeling our Savior.

Carolyn Denny says this about Jesus:

“In this series of events, John’s Gospel makes one thing clear: our Savior is fundamentally different from this world. His response is never fed by deception or greed or fear, but rather by an otherworldly compassion for His people and command over all circumstances. He will always accomplish His gracious plan, often in unforeseeable ways.”

Jesus says it like this in John 18

36 Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would have been fighting, that I might not be delivered over to the Jews. But my kingdom is not from the world.”

In Christ, we are not of this world because our ‘CLUTCH PLAYER” entered onto the field (the world) and made the game changing play.

We are to imitate Christ. Play the game as He did. He left us a GREAT COACH in the Holy Spirit!

Who needs you to be a clutch player? Whose game would the Lord have you step into, that you might share the truth in love…and through the power of the Holy Spirit,  mimic the His saving play?

DAY 23 /iPad Journaling through John / with SHE READS TRUTH app

Day 23 / John Study / She Reads Truth

John Chapter 17 is ALL about LOVE.

Love= assigning worth to another at cost to yourself.

This is what Jesus came to do. Love at ALL COST.

In this Chapter of John we are honored and privileged to “hear” our Savior and KING’S heart for His people. His most personal request.

Knowing that ALL would betray Him (even His closest friends) He prayed on their  (our) behalf!

He didn’t JUST pray for the Father to forgive us, or even for the Father to heal and restore us…

He prayed for more than we would have asked for…He prayed for what He knew we needed…beyond what we would even hope for ourselves.

and then, He died for us.

All of us.

You and me.

John Chapter 17 is ALL ABOUT CRAZY LOVE.

LOVE for us yes…& LOVE for the Father…above all else

JOHN 17: 1 When Jesus had spoken these words, he lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son that the Son may glorify you, 2 since you have given him authority over all flesh, to give eternal life to all whom you have given him. 3 And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. 4 I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me to do. 5 And now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had with you before the world existed.

As the Father is glorified, through the sacrifice of Christ…we are saved.

We were BORN out of love…and that love doesn’t end.

If I ever feel rejected, dismissed, looked over, forgotten, all things are put into perspective as I allow God’s Words to penetrate my heart.

John Chapter 17…The Love Chapter.

This is a well worn Chapter in my Bible.

It is the definiton of Love, plain and simple. It is the Glory of the Lord spoken from the heart of Jesus.

I thought it would be GREAT exercise for you to re-write John 17.

At least part of it. Let the love sink in.

That’s why I left more space for you to write ❤️

May you understand more fully, the Love your God has for you.

KNOW you are loved.

DAY 22 /iPad Journaling through John / with SHE READS TRUTH app

Day 22 / John Study / She Reads Truth

As I sit here in the hospital with my Dad I take great comfort as I read  Jesus’ words found here in John 16.

We have a God who knows what we can bear…and He protects us. (Vs12) Jesus knows the challenges we face… the burdens, the rejection, the pain, the sorrow, the loss. He knows what we suffer, He suffered it too…and then some. BUT, He came to rescue us…not from all the pain and suffering this world of sin can bring, but from death…separation from the Father.

He also came so that we might have peace…and more still… joy that is full, in the midst of trials.

John 16:24 Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.

Through the pain and suffering we pick up our crosses and follow Him to victory…over evil, over sin over death. Our Good Shepherd leads us to water…and we learn to follow His voice as we experience His provision and see His Glory as He faithfully walks before us. We must take His hand for Him to walk us through to the other side, otherwise we will lose our way.

We cannot avoid the pain in life, but our Good God promises that He will turn our grief to joy if we will keep our eyes on Him.

Our gaze is so flighty…we are distracted daily…moment by moment.  We choose to be distracted people. We do. Distracted by turning inward instead of upward. Distracted by the noise around us…cell phones, iPads, social media, tv, Distracted by a LOUD world as we are led astray by the “prince” of the earth who looks to destroy us. We are either following Christ or we are following the enemy. OUCH! I need that smack every day!

Let us practice looking up! Let’s take our thoughts captive. Stop in the moment to look for the hand of our Shepherd who will ALWAYS lead us to GOOD place.

In Christ, as He OVERCAME we are ALSO OVERCOMERS…& with supernatural strength, peace, wisdom, and JOY we can dwell with our Father, ABOVE any circumstance in our life…

to see beyond…to a place of Hope.

Bless you,

Day 20 & 21  / John Study / She Reads Truth

Hi Sisters!

Day 20 of our John study with SHE READS TRUTH      was a GRACE day. Time to catch up, time to sit and dwell…to reflect on what you have learned.  I love hearing what you all are learning, so please share what God is revealing to you!

Day 21 is a Weekly Truth day.

Life was in Him,
and that life was the light of men.
 —John 1:4

Below is a coloring page for you! I find it helpful to sit in quiet and “COLOR” God’s truth. As you relax and enjoy the process, you are “steeping” in His Word.  Prayerfully speak it and listen to the Holy Spirit as you go. I hope this little page blesses you today and that it helps you memorize Scripture!

It is my heart to come alongside you, to join with you and encourage you as you walk with the Lord!

Ps. I actually created this page with BOTH the previous week’s verse and this week’s verse…but you’ll see below that you can also print it off without words:)

much love,

DAY 19 /iPad Journaling through John / with SHE READS TRUTH app

Day 19 / John Study / She Reads Truth

Today’s scripture is so personal for me. It’s all about who we are, and who we are not. God is God, and I am not. Knowing this truth is one thing…BELIEVING it …another.

I am reminded of a song by Stephen Curtis Chapman…

And the pain falls like a curtain
On the things I once called certain
And I have to say the words I fear the most
I just don’t know

And the questions without answers
Come and paralyze the dancer
So I stand here on the stage afraid to move
Afraid to fall, oh, but fall I must
On this truth that my life has been formed from the dust

God is God and I am not
I can only see a part of the picture He’s painting
God is God and I am man
So I’ll never understand it all
For only God is God

And the sky begins to thunder
And I’m filled with awe and wonder
‘Til the only burning question that remains
Is who am I

Can I form a single mountain
Take the stars in hand and count them
Can I even take a breath without God giving it to me
He is first and last before all that has been
Beyond all that will pass

Oh, how great are the riches of His wisdom and knowledge
How unsearchable for to Him and through Him and from Him are all things

So let us worship before the throne
Of the One who is worthy of worship alone

Abiding is all about being connected to the VINE. Understanding AND BELIEVING, that apart from it…we can do nothing.

And it’s all for our benefit. “These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be FULL!!

Experiencing God’s presence and His provision happens when we abide…remain, sit, dwell with Him.  We are STUBBORN SHEEP, and we keep doing the same stupid sheep stuff…over and over again. We try to make a way for ourselves, when our Shepherd has made it clear that HE is THE ONLY WAY.

ABIDING = Connection. First with GOD and then with each other. We need one another to encourage this behavior…it’s a choice that doesn’t come easy for us.

We certainly know how to stay connected to our PHONES, RIGHT?!! Well, maybe we should “flip that habit over!”

I have a friend who happens to be an engineer.  She is smart and organized. ( I Love to surround myself with organized people, for I am not!) Anyway, she sets an alarm on her phone to go off throughout the day to REMIND herself to step away and have conversation with God.  Isn’t that a GREAT use for a phone!

Whatever it takes, we need to find practical ways to step into this obedience…stepping away from chasing our “tails” and trying to please people, and instead, walk with our Lord like He’s right beside us…’cause He is! The rewards are FRUIT…LIFE…JOY!

As you begin to REALLY listen to your Shepherd, you will come to know His voice and HEAR it above the noise of social media, consumerism, and the struggle to find acceptance.

“…My sheep hear my voice.” -Jesus

John 10:27  “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me”

CLING to the vine, for apart from it, we can do nothing and we will gain nothing.

“Can I form a single mountain
Take the stars in hand and count them
Can I even take a breath without God giving it to me
He is first and last before all that has been
Beyond all that will pass

Oh, how great are the riches of His wisdom and knowledge
How unsearchable for to Him and through Him and from Him are all things

So let us worship before the throne
Of the One who is worthy of worship alone”

 -Stephen Curtis Chapman

Praise His name above all names!  The Vine…”The One who is worthy of worship alone.”

Bless you Sister!

DAY 18 /iPad Journaling through John / with SHE READS TRUTH app

Day 18 / John Study / She Reads Truth

I’ve heard it said, many times, by many different people…

“There isn’t just one way to God.” (Oprah made this statement famous)

“I’m a good person, I try to “do right” most of the time…that’s all that matters.

But, Jesus makes it very clear…HE is the ONLY way. If we believe Jesus to be a man of truth, then there is NO room for doubt.

Many believe Jesus to be a great teacher, a wise and honorable man…but not God. Hmmmm, BUT a great teacher and a wise and honorable man would not make false claims, if He did than He would just be a liar, right?

In this age of “political correctness” and fear of offending it is difficult to take this hard line…we most certainly meet opposition. Yet, if we claim Jesus as our Savior, we must also claim Him as our Judge.  He is both. We can’t all be right. If we do not believe in an ultimate truth, than there is no truth.

Love was Jesus’ first priority, but He also spoke truth. (He is truth) We are called to do the same. To LOVE first…but to honor God by sharing who He is and who He made us to be…and in the process, we must share the whole truth…that HE IS THE (ONLY) WAY, THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE for all people.

I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. If you know Me, you will also know My Father. From now on you do know Him and have seen Him.”
- John 14:6-7

May the Lord give us the ability to speak truth in love, so that others might hear.

DAY 17 /iPad Journaling through John / with SHE READS TRUTH app

Day 17 / John Study / She Reads Truth

When “squeezed” Jesus served…out of love.

In the study notes today Erin says it like this:

“I’ve heard it said that suffering reveals the real you. What comes out of our mouths when life squeezes us in its vise grip is the stuff we’re really made of.”  -Erin Davis

Can you even imagine?????!!!! Washing the feet of your friends whom you knew would betray you? That’s the kind of vise grip that causes us sinners to ooze out muck. And most of the time, even a gentle squeeze can produce stinky juices.

Jesus instructed us to follow HIS example:

12 When he had washed their feet and put on his outer garments and resumed his place, he said to them, “Do you understand what I have done to you? 13 You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am. 14 If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. 15 For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you. 16 Truly, truly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. 17 If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them. -John 13

We certainly can’t produce sweet juice when squeezed without His help.

Thanks Erin Davis for this “picture” of our sin nature.  It will help me to remember to pray for sweet fruit…That I might be filled with the Spirit in order to better SERVE and LOVE.
