Inspirational “Hop”

Sanna Lippert/Canvas Inspiration

Above is the Inspiration piece for an informal “hop” between some of my

VERY TALENTED Design Team peeps:)

This beautiful canvas was created by Sanna Lippert, and is the “jumping off” point for our group to create.

Here is the group if you’d like to follow along!

In Sanna’s inspiration piece, I loved the Gelli Plate prints she used to add the beautiful row of scrolled torn paper…
To play off that idea, I decided to create a similar row, but instead of scrolls I cut out squares.
Sanna also inspired me to layer my canvas with loads of texture…below is a brief tutorial that explains the process.

Above are the stencils used for this project

My canvas is a 10 X 10 Wood panel.  I found this one at JoAnn Fabrics for $5.59.

Step 1 : Cover with Gesso

Next I used TCW450 Art Deco Leaves along with Lindy’s Stamp Gang’s “Greased lightening green”  to begin the background of the canvas.

As I “spritz” I keep paper towels on hand to blot, and I couldn’t resist using the paper towel itself to add some fun texture! I adhered it to the panel with matte medium.

Below, you can see the combination of Super Heavy Gesso with one of my new favorite stencils…TCW380 Grandma’s Doily.

Next, for some fun with The Dusty Attic’s Rusting Powder.

Using some type of liquid adhesive or embossing ink, stencil the design.

While still wet, sprinkle Rusting Powder over the wet stenciled design…

Tap off excess powder onto a sheet of paper to put back into the jar.

Spray powder design with white vinegar, and let dry.

I absolutely loved working with these beautiful stencils, and so I got a little crazy creating more designs with old book pages.

For more detail, I “rusted” this little wood piece from my “stash.”

Look at the cool design left underneath after “dusting and spraying!”

I will use that another time

Using some of the book pages, I punched out squares to add to the canvas.

Don’t forget to add color to the panel sides!

Below are the Tim Holtz Sets I used to add the squares and sentiment.

As always, it’s a joy to share with you!

Hope you take a few minutes to “hop on over” and check out the rest of these great designers and their inspiration found from Sanna’s beautiful canvas!

Happy Monday:)

The Crafters Workshop Stenciled Gift Box

TCW Stenciled gift box

I love to use stencils…they are so versatile…mixed media, journaling, baking, fabric painting, and all kinds of home decor projects.

I don’t know about you, but we have so many close friends of the family graduating from High School this year and buying that many gifts can really add up…so I like to try to find affordable keepsakes and spend a little extra time (instead of money) to make them look special.  I love getting a gift wrapped  with extra care…you somehow feel even more loved;)

These cute little brown kraft boxes were left over from my daughter’s wedding. I bought them in bulk, knowing I would be able to use them for gifts in the future.  The tops come flat, so they are perfect for stenciling and then once dry, ready to fold.  It allows the stenciled design to wrap over the edges which I love.

I used Super Heavy Gesso (see below)
